Executive Director
Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of
Stepping Stones of Dunn County and the administration of its
programs and services. This position includes providing leadership
toward the achievement of the organization's vision, mission,
strategic goals, annual goals and objectives. The Executive
Director along with the Board President, enable the Board of
Directors to fulfill its governance function.

Primary Responsibilities
Board Administration and Support:
Work with the Board of Directors and its committees to ensure the
organization's services are delivered and its policies implemented
in accordance with established by-laws.
Ensure that the organization has a long-range mission-focused
strategy toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
Construct agendas for board meetings in consultation with the Board
President and send out necessary materials in advance of
meetings.
Provide regular reports to the Board of Directors on the
organization's status, services, and activities.
Work with the Personnel and Nominating committee to identify and
recruit new board members.
Orient new board members, encourage board development and
education, and cultivate strong board member relationships.
Human Resources Management:
Develop and maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and
motivates a diverse and high-performance team. New positions and
any employee dismissals will occur with the approval of the
Executive Committee.
Effectively manage the human resources of the organization,
including hiring
or separation, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff.
Provide staff training as needed and encourage staff and volunteer
development and education.
Determine staff salary adjustments to be reviewed by the Personnel
Committee and approved by the Board of Directors as part of the
annual budget. Ensure appropriate compensation and benefits for all
staff.
Follow policies and procedures detailed in the Employee Handbook
and initiate their periodic review.
Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas
of the organization's work.
Program Management:
Continually assess community service needs and ways in which
Stepping Stones can improve and expand its services.
Work with the Board of Directors in establishing goals and
objectives that advance the mission of the organization.
Determine an annual plan of action to implement goals and
objectives.
Evaluate and report on the quality and effectiveness of the
organization's programs in measures that can be communicated to the
board, funders, and other constituents.
Ensure compliance with monitoring agencies and grant funding
requirements.
Public Relations and Marketing:
Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with
community partners and similar organizations (other pantries and
shelters) in or near Dunn County.
Serve as the lead spokesperson for Stepping Stones, persuasively
and passionately communicating the organization's mission.
Promote staff participation in groups and activities that enhance
Stepping Stones' mission and visibility in the community.
Oversee all marketing and communications for the organization.
Financial and Facility Management:
Lead and expand fundraising efforts, including cultivating the
interest and financial support of a wide range of stakeholders.
Oversee grant writing and proposals to foundations, corporations,
and governmental agencies.
Ensure a diversified revenue stream to include periodic capital
campaigns, planned giving, endowment funding, and annual operating
costs.
Develop the annual budget along with the Executive/Finance
Committee for Board approval and manage the organization's
resources within budget parameters.
Follow policies and procedures detailed in the Stepping Stones
Financial Manual and initiate their periodic review.
Oversee the execution and maintenance of official documents and
financial records.
Oversee the maintenance of buildings and grounds.
Maintain adequate insurance coverage of all necessary types.
Qualifications
Commitment to the Mission, Vision, and Values statement of Stepping
Stones.
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nonprofit Management, Business
Administration, Human Services, Applied Sciences, or a related
field.
A work history which demonstrates an ability to provide
professional administrative leadership and collaboration with
diverse groups of people.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Experience in personnel management (paid and volunteer).
Experience in fund development, marketing, public relations, and
fiscal management.
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, and mission
driven.
Skills
Excellent communication (oral and written), customer service, and
interpersonal skills.
Possess a positive team approach in addressing needs and creatively
solving problems, working toward consensus whenever possible.
Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced
environment, effectively coordinating several tasks
simultaneously.
Advanced computer skills.
Fiscal responsibility.
Accountability
The Executive Director is hired, supervised by, and accountable to
the Board of Directors. Together with the Board, the Executive
Director is accountable to stakeholders including clients, donors,
community partners, and volunteers.
