leaders at UnitedHealthcare. The attorney will be responsible for
providing legal support for requests for proposals (RFPs), bid
protest litigation and support legal issues for health
plan(s).You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere
within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary
Responsibilities:
- RFP Legal Support: Our Medicaid business actively bids on state
Medicaid contracts. Typically, states issue a Request for Proposal
(RFP), and various managed care organizations respond. This role
involves supporting the legal aspects of the RFP process. You will
collaborate with the proposal team, legal team, and other business
partners to review RFPs, identify legal issues, and provide
comprehensive legal support for our responses.
- Bid Protest Litigation: After a state issues an award for a
Medicaid contract, various parties may object to the award and
initiate a bid protest. This process often involves administrative
proceedings and subsequent court reviews or litigation. In this
role, you will work with outside counsel to represent the company
in both affirmative and defensive bid protests. Your
responsibilities will include gathering facts to develop protests,
reviewing documents and pleadings, and advising on various legal
issues related to protests. Throughout the process, you will
partner closely with our business colleagues to ensure
comprehensive support.
- Health Plan Support: Provide legal advice and support for
health plan operations. Review and draft contracts, agreements, and
other legal documents related to health plans. Ensure compliance
with relevant laws and regulations.
- Project Coordination/Management: Coordinate projects within the
legal team and with other departments. Organize, manage
communication, and track progress on assigned projects.
- Legal Research: Conduct legal research on specific issues and
prepare summaries with initial analysis for the legal team. Stay
updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team of attorneys and
legal professionals. Manage multiple projects, train others as
needed, and take on work from others to ensure team success and a
supportive work environment.You'll be rewarded and recognized for

in.Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree
- License to practice law in the United States
- 4+ years of legal experience, including litigation or bid
protest experience
- Understanding of business problems and ability to evaluate and
determine appropriate legal course of action to meet business unit
needs
- Proven success in collaborating across a large, matrixed
business and legal environment
- Proven negotiation skills
- Proven well-developed written and verbal communication
skills
- Proven to be comfortable taking ownership and accountability
for projects
- Demonstrated ability to drive results
- Demonstrated ability to gain acceptance from others on a plan
or idea and achieve bottom line results for the company
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented
workplace
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work effectively under
time constraints
- Demonstrated ability to provide timely and responsive legal
support for business partners located in multiple time zones and
ability to work during pacific time zone as part of
responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain rapport with
superiors, peers, subordinates, and external company
contactsPreferred Qualifications:
- Experience with regulatory agencies and administrative
experience with state insurance regulations
- Relevant legal and regulatory experience in health, law,
commercial insurance, Medicaid Managed Care, Dual Special Needs,
Medicare, litigation, government bids, provider or health care
legal support
- Expertise, judgment, and presence to advise senior leadership
on legal matters
- Understanding of health insurance and/or managed care

this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time
employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not
limited to local labor markets, education, work experience,
certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum
