About the Job
This part-time, hourly position (approximately 10-14 hours/week) is
a Temporary/Casual appointment. It will be responsible for
supporting community partnerships to ensure high quality
community-engaged learning.
Main Responsibilities:
a. Plan and facilitate annual events to increase community
partners' capacity to work effectively with students.
a. Provide guidance on community sites, syllabus construction, and
reflection assignments.
b. Manage logistics of student placements and tracking.
a. Inform students of all relevant requirements, policies, and
procedures.
b. Guide students to make informed decisions about their
community-engaged learning placements.
c. Advise students encountering challenges at their
community-engaged learning sites and/or in fulfilling their course
requirements. Communicate with faculty and community partners as
needed to resolve student issues.
d. Provide support for the development of on-line training modules
for students doing community-engaged learning as part of their
curriculum or co-curriculum.
e. Support development of CEL online resource featuring details on
engaged-learning courses to help students make more informed
decisions.
a. Integrate working knowledge of community-engaged learning (focus
on service-learning) theories and approaches appropriately to meet
each course's learning objectives and to problem-solve.
b. Communicate effectively with faculty, students and community
partners about community-engaged learning pedagogy, policies, and
procedures.
c. Maintain the CCEL's in-house online system for managing
community-engaged learning courses. Update information as needed,
set-up courses in the system, and provide guidance to faculty,
students, and community partners on using the system.
d. Ensure that students, faculty and community partners comply with
CCEL and University of Minnesota policies.
e. Recommend and implement changes in procedures and systems to
improve efficiency.
f. Devise and implement strategies that increase the quality of
community-engaged learning for faculty, students, and community
organizations.
g. Suggest policy improvements that enhance the quality of
community-engaged learning experiences and advance the
institution's public and community engagement mission.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Participate in CCEL staff meetings, retreats, professional
development events.
2. Assist at office-wide events such as: Community Involvement
Fair, Community Partner meeting, CCEL Open House, CESP reception,
Welcome Week, etc.
3. Other duties as assigned

The Center for Community-Engaged Learning (CCEL) at the University
of Minnesota supports the mission of the University, especially the
teaching and learning and public engagement aspects, by supporting
faculty and departments in developing and implementing academic
community-engaged learning courses that involve students partnering
with local communities to meet course objectives while fulfilling
community identified goals; managing the Community Engagement
Scholars Program (CESP) for undergraduate students doing
significant and intentional community work; providing community
engagement advising for students; and advising on and managing the
University relationship with the affiliated domestic, North
American off-campus study program, National Student Exchange. CCEL
works with partners to provide opportunities for students to engage
in off-campus experiential learning through community work and
place-based educational programs. Whether academically-based or
co-curricular, these experiences complement classroom learning,
foster personal, professional and civic development, and allow
students to work with others to enhance the well-being of our
communities. CCEL is a unit of the Office for the Vice Provost for
Public Engagement within the Office of the Executive Vice President
and Provost.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $15.25 - $30.00; depending on
education/qualifications/experience.
