JOB DESCRIPTION - DALLAS TRAILER REPAIR CO.
REFRIGERATION / DIESEL TECHNICIAN

Job Summary
This position is responsible for routine maintenance, diagnostics
and repair on all trucks/vehicles and related equipment. To succeed
in this role, one should have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic s
tools, service, and diagnostic equipment, as well as strong
attention to detail, excellent communication, and customer service
skills, and be able to work independently or as a team member.
Mechanic Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostics and repairs on starting & charging systems,
cooling, and re-charge, electrical and common fault codes.
- Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trucks/vehicles and related
equipment for mechanical issues, faulty and replacement parts.
- Perform leak detection and repairs, compressor replacements,
soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements and
front & rear main engine seal replacements in accordance with
manufacturer specifications and industry standard.
- Perform routine maintenance and Federal inspections on
trailers, trucks/vehicles, and related equipment.
- Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and
follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace, including
regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
- Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as
common sense safety practices.
- Ability to work independently, as well as support coworkers,
able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge-Based Requirements
- Knowledge of diesel vehicle mechanical systems (e.g.,
transmission, exhaust, electrical)
- Understanding of common diagnostic equipment with aptitude in
use of hand and/or power tools, and precision measurement tools
(e.g., calipers)
- ASE certifications highly desired but not required.
- 1-2 years of Transport Refrigeration Technical, or equivalent,
experience (Denoted below ). Class A Mechanic = 5+ yrs experience.
Class B Mechanic = 3-5 yrs experience. Class C Mechanic = 1-3 yrs
experience.
- Able to pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test to determine
probability of job success and mechanical classification.
- Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills.
- Must be able to read and write in English, as required for
documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
- Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses, Steel-toed shoes, and
Hearing Protection.
- Able to pass 10-year background check.
- Able to pass drug test/medical physical exam Physical
Demands/Abilities performed throughout the duration of the work
shift.
- Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or
up to 50lbs of force frequently or up to 20lbs of force constantly
to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including
other job-related items.
- Walking/Standing for sustained periods of time.
- Climbing Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding,
ramps, poles, and the like, using entire body
- Stooping/Crouching Bending body downward and forward by bending
at the waist, legs, and spine.
- Balancing Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
- Kneeling/Crawling Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on
knee(s) or moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Whole Hand/Fingers Picking, pinching, typing with fingers and
grasping with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive Motion Substantial movements (motions) of the
wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Talking Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken
word to others accurately and quickly when necessary.?
- Hearing Receiving detailed information through oral
communication at normal speaking levels with or without
correction.
- Vision Close visual acuity to perform activities such as
reading, using measurement devices, viewing electronic devices,
assembling, inspecting small parts and/or operating machines and
power tools, operate a motor vehicle and determine the accuracy,
neatness and thoroughness of work performed. Work Environment: Work
is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur
inside and outside and are subject to
work environments that are not climate controlled, weather, and
hot/cold temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot and possibly mold,
loud noise, and ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards
such as moving vehicles, proximity to moving mechanical parts,
electrical current, high places, high heat, and exposure to
chemicals, atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes, odors, dust, mists,
gases), or poor ventilation, or a workspace may be exposed to smoke
residue, mold and mildew, contaminated water, or other unsanitary
conditions, as well as being in closed quarters/confined spaces
(e.g. crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, attics, etc.)
